David Croft, age 62, passed away on August 21, 2024, in Brownwood, Texas.
David was born in Amarillo, Texas, to Donald M. and Mary Jo (Fitzhugh) Croft. At the age of two, the family moved to Corsicana, Texas, where David’s father opened a new bank. A few years later, the family moved down the road to Ennis, Texas, again for another new bank. In 1976, the family moved and settled in Brownwood, Texas.
David attended 1st through 8th grades in Ennis and graduated from Brownwood High School in 1980. While in high school, David was a member of the Texas VICA Skills Olympics. At state competition, he won first place in the Technical Information Contest for electric motor repair. Also, while still in high school, he was afforded the opportunity to buy into Brownwood Electric Motor Service, Inc. He worked there for 44 years and has rewound thousands of motors. He was very dedicated to this business, sometimes working on motors from daylight until dark. He was admired by the many customers he helped over the years.
David was a devoted father to Clint. He coached Clint during his young baseball years and was always bragging about how smart Clint was and was thankful he “made it out of Brownwood”. He was also so proud of his first grandchild who was born last October.
David had a gruff exterior, but a gentle heart. He used to love cooking family meals on Sunday nights when his parents were still alive. He made the best lasagna ever. Over the years, he enjoyed fishing, until his boat was stolen, and then it was game over. He was also a golfer in his younger days. David was generous, to a fault. He bought school clothes and supplies for a local family who could not afford these things, and he made sure the kids had everything they needed during a rough time in their lives. He loved babysitting his niece and nephew when they were young. David had a heart of gold, which unfortunately, failed him in the end.
David is survived by his son, Clint Croft and grandson, Archer Croft, along with Chloe and Luke Rowland. Also surviving him is his sister, Jo Lynn Landrum (husband, Terry), his nephew, Jeremy Smith, his niece Lyndsey Smith Williamson, along with their families. He also is survived by his aunt, Ann Croft Crow and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Mary Jo Croft, two sets of loving grandparents, aunts, uncles, and his best friend, Dan Burleson.
The family is having a Come & Go remembrance gathering on Saturday, August 31st, at Blaylock Funeral Home between 10:30 and Noon. Please come and share funny or meaningful stories you have about David. He would want no tears shed for him, and he would want you to come as you are.
Arrangements are under the Direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.
