The Texas Department of Public Safety issued the following information on a one-vehicle accident that took place at 7 p.m. Friday, July 26 and claimed one life.

According to the DPS preliminary investigation, a 2016 Toyota Corolla passenger car was traveling south on State Highway 206, two-tenths of a mile north of Burkett, in heavy fog. The driver the was operating car too fast for the visibility and roadway conditions. The roadway curved to the right, and the driver drove straight through curve leaving the roadway and then attempted to drive back toward the road and overcorrected. The vehicle was in a side skid off the roadway in a ditch and struck a culvert and overturned. The driver of the was unrestrained by a seat belt and was ejected.

Larry James Herron III, 22, of De Leon, was the driver and lone occupant of the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Vickie Kemp.
