Jerry Cecil Hubbard, also known as HUBCAP, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior and beloved wife Jimmie Ruth on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at Hendrick Medical Center in Brownwood, Texas.

Jerry was born on November 2, 1939 in Coleman, Texas to Alfred Cecil Hubbard and Vera Juanita Thompson-Hubbard. He married his childhood sweetheart and love of his life, Jimmie Ruth Brooks, on April 4, 1959 and shared 57 cherished years together.

He is survived by his son, Drew Anthony Hubbard and wife Barbara of China Spring; his daughter, DuAnn Marie Hubbard and Wesley Crye of Coleman; his wonderful grandchildren, Jennifer and Trent Davis of China Spring, Cole Hubbard and Chase Young of Austin, Laci and Zane Griffin of Brownwood, Troy and Danielle Hubbard of Canyon, and Aimee and John Cross of San Antonio; his adoring great-grandchildren, Harper, Emerson, and Carter Davis, Riley, Hutch, and Jack Hubbard. Jerry is also survived by his sister, Joyce Ann Smith of Coleman; in-laws G.T. and Brenda Wisener of Coleman and James Steven Brooks of Corpus Christi; along with many precious nieces and nephews.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Vera Hubbard, his loving wife Jimmie Ruth Hubbard, sister-in-law Bobbie Ann Brooks and brother-in-law Frank Vernon Brooks.

Jerry grew up in Coleman, Texas attending school from 1946 and graduated from Coleman High School in 1958. He joined the United States Air Force in 1958 and proudly served a total of four years. Jerry was stationed at Lackland Airforce Base for basic training, Amarillo Airforce Base for technical training then Fairchild Airforce Base for assignment where he worked as a mechanic on various aircraft including: 92 FMS, B-52D and KC 135. Jerry and his crew set a world record for changing an engine on a B-52D Bomber in 34 minutes that still holds the world record today.

After receiving an honorable discharge, Jerry was employed at Lear Siegler as a mechanic on jet engines and Bill Miller BBQ. In 1963, he moved back to Coleman accepting a position at Coleman County Electric Cooperative and was employed there for 37 years, retiring as Assistant Manager in 2000. After retiring, he worked for J.E. Stevens Company for eight years and Holiday Hill Nursing Home for seven years.

Jerry was actively involved in the community serving as a fireman with the Coleman Volunteer Fire Department for over twenty-two years and received the prestigious Outstanding Fireman award in 1971 before retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Coleman Chamber of Commerce, Coleman Development Council, Coleman County Medical Center Hospital Board, Coleman Exchange Club, Lions Club and a lifetime NRA member. He also served as a Scout Leader for Boy Scouts of America, Cub Scouts, Webelos and Explorer Post for 12 years.

Jerry was a member of First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Treasurer, choir member and on numerous committees. He was also a faithful member of Unity Sunday School Class at First Baptist where he loved fellowship with his close friends. He was an active member attending church services at Community Baptist Church where he enjoyed rejoicing in worship with Pastor Don Harmes and congregation.

Jerry Cecil loved his family beyond description! First, his wife Jimmie Ruth of fifty-seven years marriage, not counting their courtship from Junior High through High School; then his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that brought him so much joy! He always said, “I loved to see them coming and hated to see them leave! phew lol.”

The family will host a visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2024 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Family and friends are invited to a funeral service celebrating his remarkable life at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 2024 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Don Harmes, Pastor at Community Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at the Coleman City Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman, Texas.
