Edward Jay Wilcoxen Sr., age 80 passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2024. The family will host a graveside memorial service at Eastlawn Memorial Park in Early, Texas at 10:30 AM, on Monday, July 1, with Bill Slaymaker officiating.
Jay was born on March 18, 1944 in Eastland, Texas to M. P. and Zelda Wilcoxen. He graduated from Cross Plains High School and went on to attend Tarleton State University earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. Jay married Edwinna McCarrell on November 22, 1967 in Coleman and they began a life together that blessed them with a son Edward Jay Wilcoxen Jr. Jay worked for the State of Texas for over 40 years. His job involved a lot of travel, but he enjoyed his work and meeting new people. In his younger days his favorite past time was playing outsiders volleyball. He played both men’s volleyball and mixed. Jay also enjoyed watching his son participate in numerous sports. As he got older, Jay enjoyed attending his granddaughter’s sporting events and school programs. He also had numerous hobbies he enjoyed including collecting stamps, etc.
Jay is survived by his wife Edwinna Wilcoxen of Early, Texas; 2 granddaughters, Alex and Peyton Wilcoxen both of Clyde, Texas. He was preceded in death by his son, Edward Jay Wilcoxen, Jr and his parents, M. P. Wilcoxen, Jr and Zelda Harris Wilcoxen.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ranjana Nigalye and all the special staff at Songbird Lodge for all their hard work and the excellent care they provided Jay in his final months. The care could not have been better.
