During Tuesday night’s meeting, the Early City Council approved entering into an interlocal cooperation agreement between the Early and Comanche Police Departments.
The agreement mirrors mutual aid between fire departments, no money will change hands, and Early will receive use of Comanche’s K-9 unit and License Plate Reader.
“They have recently purchased a K-9 unit so they contacted us and let us know any time we need it they don’t mind,” Early Police Chief David Mercer told the Council. “They also have LPRs posted in their city and if something of ours goes that way they can look it up for us.”
Brown County does not have a K-9 unit, Mercer informed the Council.
Early City Administrator Tony Aaron added, “It does cover general law enforcement cooperation as well so if they have something going on we can help them, or if we have something going on they can help us.”
Also Tuesday, the City Council approved a variance allowing a controlled agricultural burn at 1701 Early Blvd., which will be the future site of the Atwoods Ranch and Home store.
“That developer will be clearing around 11 acres of trees on the property, which is part of a bigger piece of property that’s actually 159 acres,” Aaron told the Council. “They spoke both with the Fire Chief and Fire Marshal about a safe way to do that and both were supportive.”
With a burn ban in effect currently in Brown County, Aaron reminded the Council that approval must be granted from Precinct 3 County Commissioner Wayne Shaw for the controlled burn to take place.
