Michael “Mike” Van Medcalf, 79, a beloved resident of Brownwood, Texas, passed away on May 29th, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, love, and cherished memories.
For over five decades, Mike served as a Master Electrician at Pecan Valley Electric in Brownwood, where his dedication and passion for his craft were evident to all who knew him. Yet, beyond his professional achievements, Mike’s true joy stemmed from his devotion to his family.
A loving husband of 60 years to his cherished wife, Judy Byars Medcalf, Mike was a pillar of strength and support to his family. His daughter, Carey Medcalf, and his grandchildren, Jessica Medcalf, Michael Standish, Adriana Denmon, and Lauryn Brown, were the center of his world. His face would light up with joy whenever he was surrounded by his great-grandchildren, Ryan Standish, Alec Benavides, and Arias Benavides, all of whom brought immense happiness to his life.
Mike had a special bond with his family, especially when they embarked on adventures together, riding the “vroom vroom” (4-wheeler) through the countryside, creating cherished memories that will endure for generations.
He was known for his unwavering loyalty and reliability, a friend on whom you could always depend. Mike’s honesty and sincerity endeared him to all who knew him, and his storytelling prowess captivated audiences, ensuring that once he started, you were in for a delightful journey.
Mike is preceded in death by his son, James Ray Medcalf, his parents, Gilbert Medcalf and Minnie Gleaton Medcalf, and his brother, Larry Medcalf.
In addition to his family and friends, Mike had a deep affection for animals. In honor of his passion, the family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Corine T Smith Animal Shelter, as a meaningful gesture of sympathy.
Though Mike may have departed from this earthly realm, his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. His love, laughter, and wisdom will continue to guide and inspire those whose lives he touched. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.
