One person in custody in Coleman after firearm brought to school

The Coleman Police Department posted the following information on its Facebook page at 10:07 a.m.:

At approximately 8:00 a.m., Officers of the Coleman Police Department and the Coleman County Sheriff’s Department responded to the Coleman High School for a report of a student with a gun.

Officers made contact with the student and retrieved a handgun from the student. The student was taken into custody without incident.

There were no shots fired, and no injuries were reported. All students are reported to be safe at this time.

All students are being transported to the Bill Franklin Center. Parents are directed to pick up their children from the Bill Franklin Center. Please bring ID to ensure appropriate release of the children.

School facilities are still being searched to ensure no other threats exist.
