Jesse ‘Sonny’ Melendrez II, 45

Jesse “Sonny” Melendrez II, 45, of Bryan, Texas but raised in Brownwood, Texas passed away in Brownwood on Monday, May 13, 2024. A visitation with family will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Friday, May 17, 2024 at Heartland Funeral Home. Funeral service will be in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel at 1:00 PM, Saturday, May 18, 2024 with interment to follow at Millersview Cemetery in Millersview, Texas.

Jesse was born July 5, 1978 in Brownwood, Texas to Jesse Sr. and Mary Melendrez. He graduated from Brownwood High School and followed in his dad’s footsteps by getting an associates degree in radiology from Hendrick Medical Group in Abilene, Texas. Jesse married the love of his life, Tonya Adams February 18, 2006 in Brownwood and they began a life together that blessed them with 3 beautiful children, Caden, Chloe, and Corbin. Jesse was a supervisor in the Radiology Department at St. Joseph Medical Center in Bryan, Texas where they have lived for the last 20 years. Jesse was so loved by all his co-workers and everyone he came in contact with. He had a great sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. An avid Dallas Cowboys fan that was instilled in him from birth as his parents, sister and whole family loves the Cowboys. Jesse had a great relationship with his entire family and they spent time together very often. Jesse and his best friend/brother-in-law, Matthew, were the water volleyball champions of the family gatherings every year. Jesse loved movies, music, the arts, painting, drawing, reading books of all kinds, and spending time with his beloved dog, Colonel. He will be remembered for his laughter and ability to make others laugh, his great hair, his friendship and his love. Jesse was a great friend, brother, son, grandson, father and husband.

Jesse is survived by his beloved wife, Tonya Melendrez; children, Caden Melendrez, Chloe Melendrez and Corbin Melendrez all of Bryan; his parents, Jesse Sr. and Mary Melendrez of Brownwood; sisters, Jessica Coursey and husband Matthew of Hutto; sister-in-laws, Brooke Herbst and husband Adam of Boerne, Chelsea Beslanowitch and husband Steven of Brownwood; brother, Davy Melendrez of San Antonio; mother & father-in-law, Stacy & Jerry Adams of Brownwood; nephews, Samuel Cousey of Hutto, Jack Herbst of Boerne; nieces, Madison Mullins of Stephenville, Neely Mullins of Brownwood, Emma Herbst of Boerne; grandmother & grandfather-in-laws, Leona Adams, Hank Wheeler, Juanell and Charles Smith, all of Brownwood; and his beloved dog, Colonel.

Jesse was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Longina Torres and Nita Melendrez; uncles, Herbert Torres, Benito Torres, “Cinch” Ascension Melendrez; aunts, Henrietta Castaneda, and Ruth Cruz Cassle; and grandfather-in-law, John Adams.
