A graveside funeral service for Cheri Steele, age 77, of Brownwood, will be held at 2:00PM, Friday, May 17, 2024, in Greenleaf Cemetery, under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home.

Cheri passed from this life on Monday, May 13, 2024, in Brownwood.

Cheri Suzann Bennett Steele was born in Brownwood on September 24, 1946, to Ima (Bingham) and Lew Bennett.  She graduated from Brownwood High School in 1964 and then attended Texas Tech. Cheri married Artie Ben Steele, Jr. on December 11, 1974 in Brownwood. She was a dedicated, longtime member of First Methodist Church in Brownwood.  Cheri owned and operated Pecan Valley Title from 1986 until 2022.  She loved to cook, play Bunko, and being an active part of her church community.  She also enjoyed sipping a margarita on the rocks while having chips and salsa at Chilis.

Cheri is survived by her sons, Scott Steele of Austin and Todd Steele and wife Vicki of Brownwood; five grandchildren, Ashton Steele, Jessica Allen and husband Jacob, their children: Berkeley, Briar, Bennett, and Brenham; Kristen and husband Grady Staton, their son Jude; Kyle Steele and wife Ashley, their son Knox; and Blake Steele and wife Hallie and their son Beau.

Cheri was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Artie Ben Steele, Jr. in 2008.

Because of Cheri’s love for animals, the family requests that memorials be made to the Corrine T. Smith Animal Center, 3016 Milam Dr, Brownwood, Texas, 76801.
