Maria Theresa Gutierrez-Gage, 70, of Brownwood, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024. Her family will host visitation which will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Monday, May 6, 2024 at Heartland Funeral Home in Early. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, May 7, 2024 in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel, with interment to follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park.
Only on legal forms did she ever go by Maria. Theresa or MOMO was born September 12th, 1953 in Sinton, Texas to Bertha and Joe Gonzales. She married Arthur Gutierrez, in 1974 until his passing in 2003, he was the father of her 3 sons. Theresa devoted her life to loving everyone she ever met. She married James Gage on February 26th, 2015. She was an avid country music fan, including Alan Jackson, George Jones and many other classic country music artists. Her biggest hobby was spending time with her family. She enjoyed gathering with her family and cooking. Theresa loved helping others. She worked as the cafeteria supervisor at Brownwood Regional Hospital for 23 years. After her time at the hospital, Theresa worked as a juvenile corrections officer for 8 years. She found happiness in helping young troubled youth fin meaning in their lives. Theresa helped guide the children she worked for with passion and unconditional love.
Theresa is survived by her husband, James Gage; 3 sons, Sergio, Alonzo and Andrew Gutierrez; her four sisters, Birdie Morris, Mae Rodriguez, Diana Parmele, and Veronica Moran; her 2 brothers, Victor Velasquez and Jeff Velasquez; her father-in-law, Billy Rhodes; her 8 grandchildren, Sergio Gutierrez Jr., Jaslyn Gutierrez and husband Armando Garfias, Dillon Grabast and wife, Rianna, Matyha Thompson, Alonzo Gutierrez Jr. and wife, Lexi, Andrew Gutierrez, Kaitlyn Gutierrez, Kylie Gutierrez; and a great grandchild, Azzer Gutierrez.
Theresa was preceded in death by her brothers, Martin Velasquez and Joe Gonzales; her mother and father, Bertha and Joe Gonzales; step-father, Jesus Velasquez and her 1st husband, Arthur Gutierrez.
