LUBBOCK – After the Brownwood Lions secured no less than three berths Friday, the Brownwood Lady Lions on Saturday added two – and a potential third – entrant to the reservation list for the UIL Class 4A Track and Field State Championships based on performances at the Region I-4A meet at Lowrey Field.

Heading to Austin as regional champions will be the Lady Lions’ 4×200 relay of Icess Hall, Kaya Phillips, Aniah Hines and Kate Tindol. Phillips also qualified for state in the girls 200 meters, where she captured the regional championship as well.

Also, the Lady Lions’ 4×400 relay of Kate Tindol, Kaya Phillips, Sidney Windham and Braycee Lee placed third and must wait to see if they will qualify as the state wild card – which is the best third-place performer out of all four regions.

Joining the girls in Austin will be Lions Ike Hall, who on Friday captured the regional championship in both the boys triple jump (48-4.25) and boys long jump (23.2-75), along with Morsello Hooker, who came in second (44-4.5) in the triple jump.

Sam Kallman is still in the mix for the wild card in the boys discus after placing third with a best effort of 151-3 Friday. Kallman actually finished tied for second with Parker Webb of Pampa, but Webb had the better distance on the second-longest throw, thus winning the tiebreaker.

The Lady Lions generated 48 points at the meet and placed third in Region I-4A, while the Lions finished with 44 points at the meet to place fifth in the region.
