McCrane remains perfect as Defenders notch first victory

Brownwood High School graduate Matt McCrane successfully converted a 43-yard field goal to remain perfect on the season, as the D.C. Defenders earned their first UFL victory of the season, 23-18, over the Houston Roughnecks Sunday afternoon.

Trailing 18-12 heading into the fourth period, the Defenders, who improved to 10-0 all-time at home, scored 11 points in the fourth period to improve to 1-1 on the season.

McCrane booted a 43-yard field goal with 13 minutes remaining to cap an 11-play, 53-yard drive to bring the Defenders within 18-15.

For the season, McCrane is 5 of 5 on his field goal attempts with a long of 50 yards. McCrane continues to lead the league in field goals made and field goal percentage.

The Defenders are back in action at noon Saturday against the Arlington Renegades at Choctaw Stadium. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
