The Early Police Department issued the following press release Monday morning:
On March 21 at approximately midnight, officers stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of Williams Drive for a traffic violation. When the officers made contact with the driver, they developed probably cause to search the vehicle.
The initial search immediately resulted in locating a large bag containing a quantity of marijuana. Officers began to handcuff the driver when he broke loose and ran. Officers pursued on foot a short distance and took the driver into custody after a brief struggle.
The driver initially gave a false name but after he was taken into custody, he gave his real name and information. Officers continued the search of the vehicle and located a bag containing a quantity of methamphetamines. Also located was THC oil and THC wax, scales and empty baggies used for packaging drugs for sale. Another small baggie of methamphetamines was located in the driver’s wallet. 2 handguns were also located in the vehicle.
The driver, Jerry Don Head, 34 years old from Early, had outstanding warrants for:
- Parole violation-unlawful possession of firearm by felon
- Parole violation-burglary of habitation
- Surety withdrawal-possession of controlled substance – Coryell County
- Surety Withdrawal-Tampering with Evidence
Head was also charged with the following charges:
- Manufacture and Delivery of Controlled Substance over 4 grams
- Possession of Marijuana over 4 ounces
- Evading Arrest
- Unlawful Possession of Firearm
- Failure to Identify as Fugitive
- Driving while License Invalid
- Resisting Arrest
