Early Squads, Bangs Boys, Brookesmith Girls Finish In Top 10 At Bluebonnet Relays

A 2 1/2-hour weather delay didn’t deter the more than 20 schools who competed at the small school portion (Class 1A-3A) of the Bluebonnet Relays Thursday, as the Jim Ned Indians captured the boys team championship with 194 points and the Goldthwaite Lady Eagles finished first in the girls final team standings with 158 points.

The Early Longhorns came in as the runners-up in the varsity boys division with 73 points, the Early Lady Horns amassed 81 points which was good for third place among varsity girls squads, the Bangs Dragons netted 59 points for a fourth-place boys effort, and the Brookesmith Lady Mustangs finished tied for ninth place in the varsity girls draw with 9 points.

Friday’s Large School portion of the meet begins at 10:30 a.m. with the field events and 3200 meters. Running events are currently set to start at 4 p.m. The field will feature the following 10 teams:  Brownwood, Abilene Wylie, Breckenridge, Copperas Cove, Harker Heights, Hico, Odessa High, Odessa Permian, Snyder, and Stephenville.
