The Brownwood Police Department issued the following press release Monday morning:
On Sunday March 3, 2024, at approximately 6:40 a.m., the Brownwood Police Department began receiving phone calls from citizens about a prowler. The initial call came from a homeowner in the 300 block of Lori Lane. The female resident explained how she confronted a male in her backyard, who then walked away while cursing at the female. A short time later, another call came in from a residence on FM 2126 (Austin Avenue). The caller reported a male subject trying door handles to a shed in her backyard. The male was confronted by the caller’s husband, who chased the male toward FM 45 (Access Road).
At approximately 7:45 a.m., officers were again dispatched to a prowler, this time in the area of Countryside Dr. Officer Charles Durning arrived and observed a male walking in a yard close to Countryside and High Meadows Dr. This male matched the suspect descriptions provided by all the victims.
The male was detained and identified as 35 -year-old Jimmy Dale Couch Jr. of Brownwood. Couch stated that he, “woke up in the woods and demons were trying to get him.” AMR ambulance service arrived to assess Couch, but he refused all services.
Couch was arrested and transported to the Brown County Jail where he was charged with Burglary of a Habitation, Burglary of a Building and Public Intoxication.
