Early ISD Superintendent leaving for job in Lubbock ISD

Early ISD Superintendent Dr. Dewayne Wilkins is leaving the school district to join the Lubbock ISD as its Chief Financial Officer.

Chance Barr, president of the Early ISD Board of Trustees, shared the following information in an email:

“Dr. Wilkins has announced that he has accepted a job at Lubbock ISD, and his last day will be March 17, 2024. We wish him well in his new position. The Board will meet tonight (Tuesday, Feb. 27) in closed session to discuss the timeline for selecting an interim superintendent and starting the search for our new superintendent.”

Lubbock ISD posted the following on its website on Feb. 22:

“Please help us welcome Dr. Dewayne Wilkins to the Lubbock ISD family! Dr. Wilkins was named our new Chief Financial Officer at this morning’s board meeting. We are excited to see the great work he’ll do in our district!”

Wilkins was named Early ISD Superintendent in July 2020 after serving a two-year stint at Gordon ISD in the same capacity.
