Sharon Kay Reno, 81, of May

Sharon Kay Reno, born in Vernon, TX on October 21, 1942, to Maureen and JR Edwards, passed away February 24, 2024 at her home at the age of 81. Her family will host a visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, at Heartland Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel in Early, with interment to follow at May Cemetery.

Known as Kay for her whole life, she grew up in Vernon, and graduated in 1961. After high school, she pursued cosmetology (a skill that would serve her during her children’s high school days, when she became the official hairstylist for her kids’ and friends’ perms and their haircuts). Then, in 1971 she started an esteemed 33 year career with, Texas Youth Commission in Brownwood. She was acknowledged and rewarded numerous times for her hard work and dedication. It was there that she would meet the love of her life, Joe Reno. They married in 1976. Her and Joe moved to May, Texas in 1982 until present. They celebrated their 48th anniversary earlier this year. Together they raised 5 children: JD, Bobby, Amy, Devron and Brandi. She was a woman of strong faith, which never wavered even through her most difficult times. Her family was her greatest love and there will never be another Mom, Granny or Aunt Kay like her.

Kay is survived by husband, Joe Reno of May; 2 sons, JD O’Mara and wife, Melanchie, of Kuwait, Bobby Blankenship and Jennifer Strickland of May; 2 daughters, Devron Roberts and husband, Jody of Bangs, Brandi Harris and husband, Jerry of Rising Star; and Charlie Jo “he is not a dog”. She is also, survived by her 15 grandkids, 11 great-grandkids and 1 great-great-granddaughter; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; two sisters, Sue Pickett and Ann Adkins; and her beloved friend/mother-in-law, Jeniece Reno.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Amy Bennett; and the one that got away, Elvis Presley.
