Calvin Richard Henniger was surrounded by loved ones when he passed peacefully on Thursday, February 15, 2024 in Odessa, Texas. He was 94. Calvin was born in Fayette County, Texas on March 18, 1929 to Moody and Ella Henniger. He was raised in Bend, Texas and there began his love of farming.

As a teenager, he worked with his family on the farm and soon had a peanut crop of his own and got himself some cows! He was and has always been a go-getter and taking care of family was his top priority. In 1951 Calvin married the love of his life, Peggy Joyce Hillin. He enlisted in the Air Force that same year and was stationed in Albuquerque, New Mexico before shipping out to South Korea to serve his country in the Korean War. Upon his return from the war, Calvin and Peggy decided they wanted to build a wonderful family together, and they did. They loved and raised 2 children.

Calvin was a Millwright by trade and a family man by heart. He filled his days of retirement with doing the things he loved: visiting family, hunting, fishing, and gardening. He had a knack for many things in life, but gardening was his absolute passion. His green thumb got greener during his up-bringing; a time when growing and raising food was not just a way of life, it was the way you fed your family. Gardening brought him great joy and he loved sharing that joy with those he loved. His seemingly effortless ability to grow vegetables was always a sight to behold. Family visits with Calvin always ensured two things: great company and some goodies from the garden, brought as gifts to his loved ones.

Calvin is survived by his children; Kelly Henniger of Pasadena, Texas, and Holly Key and husband Randy Key of Pecos, Texas; 2 grandchildren; Randi Hunt and husband Jeremy Hunt of Miles, Texas and Max Key and wife Jonna Key of Lubbock, Texas. 3 great grandchildren; Adam Hunt, Coby Hunt and Moody Key. Calvin was preceded in death by his wife Peggy Henniger, brother R.J. Henniger of Bend, Texas and his sister Doris Poe of Lampasas, Texas.
