Paul Allen Lawson, 78, of Brownwood

Paul Allen Lawson, a cherished husband, devoted father, and beloved grandfather, peacefully passed away on February 9, 2024, at his home in Brownwood, TX, surrounded by his family.

Paul was born on June 11, 1945, at home in Brownwood, to Foy Redden Lawson and Nettie Mae Gober, Paul was a humble and kind-hearted soul. Paul married Johnnie Ilene McDonald on August 23, 1975 and began a life together that blessed them with 8 children.

Paul, or better known as PopPop, was a very loving, funny and talented individual. There wasn’t much he couldn’t do when it came to any kind of construction. His kind heart led him to help anyone he could, whether he knew them or not. he enjoyed many things in life, including making jokes that could make anybody laugh, spoiling his dogs, Joy, and later on Missy, and wearing pearl snap shirts. Music was his passion. He started playing the guitar and singing at a very young age. His family, friends, church family and anyone who heard would agree that he was the greatest singer and guitar player there ever was. More than his loved for music was his love for family. He loved his children infinitely and his grandchildren, along with great grandchildren, were the lights of his life. His favorite thing to do was play and listen to music with his children and grandchildren. Paul proudly passed down his love and talent for music to these generations, and more to come. Most of all, he loved and lived to worship his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a walking example of the love of Jesus. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Paul is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Johnnie Lawson; his sons, Scott Lawson and wife Rhonda of Brownwood, Thomas Paul Lawson and wife Gladys of Brownwood, Charles Lawson and wife Sandy of Bangs, Paul Lawson Jr. and wife Charity of Amity, Arkansas, Tony Lawson and wife Bennetta of Brownwood, Robert Keith and wife Cheryl of Fort Stockton, and Shane Keith of Midland; daughter, Johnette Hall of Brownwood; sister Ruth Woolfe and husband Emmitt of Brownwood; 22 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews; and lastly his fur baby Missy.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Foy Redden Lawson and Nettie Mae (Gober) Lawson; brothers, Kenneth Lawson, Foy E. Lawson, Damon Lawson and Homer Joseph Lawson; and sister Virginia Thrash.

A graveside service will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday, February 14th at the Cedar Point Cemetery under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home in Early.

Paul’s legacy will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
