Brownwood Lions head football coach and athletic director Sammy Burnett announced Monday that the 2024 football schedule has been rounded out with a pair of preseason scrimmages.
Originally slated to face Burnet and Lampasas, the Lions’ scrimmage plans were scrapped Thursday when both schools landed with Brownwood in the new District 4-4A Division I for the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
Instead, the Lions will now host Argyle Liberty Christian – coached by former Dallas Cowboy Jason Witten – in the first scrimmage of the preseason at Gordon Wood Stadium. The Warriors won the TAPPS Division II state championship in 2023.
The second scrimmage opponent for the Lions will be the Alvarado Indians, as Brownwood will take a road trip in its final tune-up for the Aug. 30 season opener.
The Lions will then host Abilene Wylie in Week 1, visit Wall in Week 2, welcome Glen Rose and Waco La Vega in Weeks 3 and 4, head to China Spring in Week 5, then meet Ingleside in San Antonio in Week 6for the pre-district finale.
District play kicks off Week 7 at Lampasas followed by Brownwood’s bye in Week 8. The Lions then welcome Burnet in Week 9, venture to Stephenville in Week 10, and close out the district and regular season schedule at home against Marble Falls in Week 11.
