During Tuesday morning’s meeting, the Brownwood City Council approved the
purchase of three new sewer lift station package units from Hydro Source Services, Inc. at a cost of $141,334.57 utilizing American Rescue Plan Act – CLFRF #0225 Utility Infrastructure Funds.
City staff solicited proposals to purchase new lift station package units to replace the Crockett, Riverside, and Stewart Street lift stations. Two proposals were submitted with a low bid from Hydro Source Services, Inc, Round Rock, Texas. Bids were received and read aloud on January 9, 2024, and after reviewing the submittals and scoring the bids, City Staff agreed that all of the bids met the requirements.
The low bid is within the anticipated budget for ARPA allocations. Delivery is expected to be 10 – 12 weeks. Once the units are delivered, the Utility Department will coordinate the installation of the units and the electrical work.
The Council also approved the City Manager to sign a contract to replace two 10,000-gallon fuel tanks, tank monitoring system, and install a bulk DEF (diesel exhaust fluid) system.
The fuel system located at the Service Center has been in operation since the city acquired the facility in the late 1980‘s from the National Guard. The fuel dispensers were replaced last year along with the installation of the new canopy, leaving the original 1992 10,000-gallon fuel tanks. According to industry standards, these types of tanks have a useful life of 20-30 years.
The Fleet Department acquired a Buy Board quote in July 2023 from JF Petroleum Group out of Edinburg, Texas, to replace the two 10,000-gallon fuel tanks, the tank monitoring system, and installation of a new bulk DEF system for $240,000. This amount was included in the 23/24 budget. The price has since increased to $261,353.96. Staff recommends covering the overage of $21,353.96 from the Service Center surplus funds.
Items passed on the consent agenda included the City Manager signing the Texans Feeding Texans: Home-Delivered meal Grant Program (HDM) agreement and any subsequent addendums, amendments, and acceptance of additional funds during the term of the contract.
The Texans Feeding Texan (TFT) Home-Delivered meal Grant total is $24,141.26 to be expended February 1 through August 1, 2024. This is an increase of $17,818.30 from the TFT grant award for 2023.
Also during the meeting, outgoing Landfill Superintendent Todd Thompson was recognized for 29 years of service ahead of his retirement on Wednesday. Long time City employee Rebecca Bradley was introduced as the new Landfill Superintendent. Also, new communications manager for the City, Sydney Turner, was introduced to those in attendance.
