Coming off a 1-3 performance at the TexasBank Holiday Classic last week, the Brownwood Lions returned to the win column Tuesday night with an 80-44 triumph over the Coleman Bluecats at Warren Gym.

The Lions (10-14), who reached double figures in the win column, led 28-11 after one quarter, 42-18 at halftime and 58-32 heading into the fourth period.

“It was nice to get everybody out there and get them in a rhythm,” said Lions head coach Will Parker. “We got some really good looks and were able to hit some shots. It’s the kind of performance you want to see at the beginning of January getting ready for district.”

Casey Friebel paced the effort with 18 points followed by 16 each from Hayden Noe and Ross Strasner, 14 from Morsello Hooker, 10 from Ike Hall, four from Grant Gray, and two points from Weston Wolf.

“We didn’t turn the ball over in the half court nearly as much as we’ve been doing which is really good,’ Parker said in regard to the biggest bright spots Tuesday night. “Morsello is doing a great job of attacking the basket and making the right decisions. He can elevate over anybody and get a shot off at anytime, but there’s times where he can find open teammates and get them in rhythm, too. The more offensive weapons we have the better off we’re going to be.”

For Coleman, Hunter Lackey scored a team-high 14 points followed by Kelan Sikes with eight and Jadin Jackson with six.

Next up for the Lions is a 7:30 p.m. Friday home date against Gatesville (19-3), which won the Boys Big School Division of the TexasBank Holiday Classic last week.

“We have a really good Gatesville team coming in on Friday so we enjoy this one for a brief second and turn our thoughts to them,” Parker said. “Defensively, we have to be able to keep guys out of the paint. We have to be able to hold our ground and make them earn everything they get.”
