After scoring a total of 63 points and shooting a combined 26 percent from the floor during a two-game losing streak, the Brownwood Lady Lions put 50 points on the board before halftime, buried 43 percent of their field goals, and established a new-season high in points in a 76-30 drubbing of Springtown Friday night at Warren Gym.

The Lady Lions knocked down 27 of 63 field goals, including 21 of 47 attempts (44 percent) inside the three-point arc, 6 of 16 three-pointers (37 percent), and also converted 16 of 20 (80 percent) of their free throws. Brownwood also turned the ball over a season-low seven times, recorded 22 steals and pulled down 31 rebounds – with 15 coming on the offensive end.

Everybody contributed, four people were in double figures, we were able to spread it around and everybody stepped up and put the ball in the hoop like we need to,” said Lady Lions head coach Heather Hohertz.

Kimber Green led the charge with 16 points trailed by Hannah Deen with 14, Trinity Roberts and Adyson Neel with 11 apiece, Miranda Northcutt with nine, Icess Hall with eight, Rylie Schaffer with five, and Kate Tindol with two points.

From the get-go we were knocking down shots, even when I put the second group in,” said Hohertz, who cleared her bench in the first period with Brownwood in front 17-2 at the 3:57 juncture. “Adyson and Rylie stepped up and knocked down shots from the outside and got us going there. We turned them over a lot to get us out in transition to get layups and we’re really succesful when we get out in transition and run.”

The Lady Lions led 23-6 after one quarter as, after Springtown’s Esther Balado – who scored a team-best 13 points – recorded the first bucket 38 seconds into the contest, Brownwood reeled off the next 20 points and held the Lady Porcupines scoreless for a 5:21 stretch.

In the second period, Brownwood (11-6) tallied the first 18 points of the quarter and led 44-6 before Springtown (14-10) sank a pair of free throws after a 6:11 scoring drought.

At halftime, the Lady Lions owned a 50-8 advantage, having surrendered just two field goals.

We needed to work on our single fist because we’ve been playing so much man-to-man lately and we were active, rotated and got tips on balls,” Hohertz said.

The Lady Lions’ lead stood at 67-23 heading into the fourth period, as the reserves received almost as much playing time as the starters Friday night.

You never know when the next man might be up so it’s crucial going into Christmas and then district for everyone to get playing time and feel comfortable out there knowing sets and knowing the offense, and that’s what we tried to do tonight,” Hohertz said.

The Lady Lions host San Angelo Lake View at 6:15 p.m Tuesday and visit Bangs at 6 p.m. Thursday in their final two outings prior to the Christmas break.
