The deadline for purchasing wreaths to honor Brown County veterans buried at Greenleaf Cemetery is upon us.
The cutoff is Giving Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 11:29 p.m., but there’s still time to support this worthy cause to lay wreaths at every veteran’s grave at Greenleaf Cemetery. The more than 2,000 American veterans buried there fought in every war since, and including, the Texas Revolution.
The Welcome W. Chandler Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas sponsors this project. Members are selling fresh balsam wreaths for $17 each, in cooperation with Wreaths Across America.
To honor Brown County veterans with a Christmas wreath see the flyer accompanying this article or go to the Welcome W. Chandler DRT Facebook page.
Posters of a miniscule fraction of the heroic veterans buried at Greenleaf are on display through December at the Brown County History Museum.
The public is encouraged to attend the wreath-laying ceremony at Greenleaf Cemetery Saturday, Dec. 16, at 10 a.m. Everyone in attendance will be asked to help lay wreaths, say the veteran’s name and thank them for their service.
