Philip Scott Mayfield, resident of San Antonio, passed away unexpectedly on November 21, 2023. A mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday December 1, 2023, at St. Mary Queen of Peace, in Brownwood. Inurnment will follow at Salem Cemetery, in Bangs with full military honors.
Phil was born in Brownwood to Peggy and Richard Mayfield on March 4, 1975. After high school, he enlisted in the Air Force. While stationed in England, he met Erica, his soon-to-be-bride, who was studying abroad.
Phil was a family man. His devotion to Erica stemmed from deep within his soul, and he had an immeasurable amount of love for his children, Matthew and Elissa.
Although he earned awards and medals during his extensive Air Force career, he didn’t publicize his achievements. He would, however, boast about his career as an amateur meteorologist and developing interest in photography.
Phil is survived by his wife of 28 years, Erica Maria Mayfield; son, Matthew Tyler Mayfield and wife Ashton; daughter, Elissa Maria Mayfield; dogs Floki, Freya, Leon, and Roxy; brother, Michael Wayne Mayfield and numerous extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Richard Leon Mayfield.
Phil will be remembered as a constant source of strength and stability for so many. He leaves behind a legacy of love and understanding. He left us too soon but his ‘Phil’osophies and one-of-a-kind spirit will remain with us forever.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the organization they adopted Leon from.
