Charles Edward Ferguson, 91, of Mullin

Charles Edward Ferguson, better known as Ed or Red was born March 6, 1932 in Brown County, Texas to Leaman and Zerelda Ferguson. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 16, 2023. He married Willa Jean Spinks on October 27, 1950. They were happily married 62 years before Jean’s death in 2013. Ed and Jean had 2 children.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jean, infant brother J.L., brothers Tudd, Buster, and Lester Harold, and sisters Oneita, Thelma, Donnie, and Jewel.

He is survived by his son Eddie Dwain Ferguson (Marquita) and daughter, Gwenda Lethco (Bruce); grandchildren Jered Lethco, Joni Lethco, Brett Ferguson, and Blake Ferguson (Eileen); great-grandchildren, Flynt Lethco and Oliver Ferguson; sisters June Hollingshead (Raymond), and Barbara Burnett, and many nieces and nephews.

Ed had a gifted mechanical aptitude and operated the Ferguson Garage for many years. As a hobby, he restored many antique tractors that he sold to collectors from all parts of the U.S. When he attended tractor shows, he was surrounded by folks asking his advice and help with their projects. He later moved on to restoring classic cars and had many good times with the members of the car clubs.

The creation of the Mullin Volunteer Fire Department was probably his proudest accomplishment. The first firetruck was an old surplus water truck that he towed back and got running. He said having that truck sure beat fighting fires with Fowler White using a wet toe sack and a shovel. Later, one of his proudest days
was when the new fire station was named in his honor.

Ed loved to joke around with everyone. It didn’t take him long to find a way to make you laugh no matter what the conversation was about. He picked on his sisters relentlessly.

If you knew Ed Ferguson, you most likely have been helped by him in some way. The family would like to thank all his friends and neighbors for visiting and checking on him during the past few years. He counted his wealth by the number of friends he had and died a wealthy man.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mullin Volunteer Fire Department.
