Lady Lions go 1-1 on first day of Hamilton tournament

HAMILTON – The Brownwood Lady Lions opened the Hamilton tournament Thursday with their fourth consecutive victory, 46-29 over Lampasas.

Brownwood led 14-4 after one quarter, 22-9 at halftime and 36-19 through three periods. The Lady Lions shot 37 percent (18 of 49) from the field, 21 percent (4 of 19) from beyond the three-point arc, and 37 percent (6 of 16) at the free throw line. The Lady Lions overcame 22 turnovers thanks to 32 rebounds and 17 steals.

Kimber Green paced Brownwood with 18 points followed by Hannah Deen with 13, Trinity Roberts with 10, Nyla Hall and Kate Tindol with two points apiece, and Miranda Northcutt with one.

Later Thursday, the Lady Lions tasted defeat for the first time, falling to host Hamilton, 43-35, in tournament action.

Brownwood trailed 13-4 after one quarter, 23-11 at halftime and 34-23 through three periods. The Lady Lions shot 25 percent (14 of 55) from the floor, 8 percent (1 of 12) at the three-point arc, and 40 percent (6 of 15) at the free throw line. Brownwood also committed 23 turnovers to go along with 35 rebounds and 15 steals.

Roberts led the charge with a career-high 19 points trailed by Green and Deen with five each, and Icess Hall, Tindol and Northcutt with two points apiece.

The Lady Lions will square off against McGregor at 12:30 p.m. Friday, then wrap up the tournament with a seeding game Saturday based on the final pool results.
