A lifelong cowboy and rancher, he was known to all as the one who could get any escaped cow back to the herd- his or anyone else’s. Pat Albert Dunavant, 80, of Brownwood, Texas, died peacefully at home in Lubbock, Texas on November 11, 2023.
Pat was born on August 2, 1943, in Lubbock, Texas to Thelma and Albert Dunavant. As a young man in west Texas, he participated in Ropesville Future Farmers of America before moving to Brownwood where he played saxophone and graduated high school becoming a lifelong Brownwood Lion.
Pat returned to Ropesville and married Patti Taylor on June 1, 1963, where he farmed the land, and they started a family before moving back to Brownwood in 1972. Pat and Patti were high school sweethearts, married for 60 years.
He worked as a ranch hand for many years for just about anyone who needed him and was known for his Catahoula Leopard Dogs with whom he won several awards at dog trials over many years. A man of few words, Pat was a kind spirit who loved his family, enjoyed hunting and fishing, enjoyed a good cowboy story and loved Texas Rangers baseball.
