Susanne Smith Miller, age 80, passed away peacefully with her husband and daughter at her side, during the Hour of Mercy, on October 16, 2023, at her residence in Katy, Texas.

Susanne was born February 1, 1943, in Brady, Texas to William B. Smith and Billie Mae (Spiller) Smith. She grew up in Rochelle, graduated from Rochelle High School in 1961, and attended San Angelo College for one year before meeting Daniel E. Miller in April 1962. Susanne and Daniel were married on October 20, 1962, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Brady.  Susanne was dedicated to children’s education. She was a teacher’s aide for the Brady Independent School District for 17 years (1974-1991). She worked at Brady Jr. High with special needs children and later at Brady High School in the library. After moving to Katy in 1991, she worked for the Katy Independent School District as a library aide at Bear Creek Elementary School for 12 years before retiring.  Susanne’s close circle of lifelong friends brought her much joy. She played tennis avidly in her younger years and stayed active her entire life. She loved her books, and she loved her cats. Susanne belonged to Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Birthday Club, and the Racquet Club. She was an active parishioner of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and became a parishioner of St. Bartholomew the Apostle Catholic Church after moving to Katy.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Susanne Smith Miller will be held at 11:30am, Monday, October 30, 2023, at St. Bartholomew the Apostle Catholic Church in Katy with Father Ricardo Arriola presiding.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30am, Thursday, November 2, 2023, at Rochelle Cemetery in Rochelle with Deacon John Rangel presiding. The family will receive friends after the graveside service with details to follow.

Susanne is survived by Daniel E. Miller, her loving husband of nearly 61 years, of Katy, Texas; daughter Sue Ellen (Miller) Young and husband Loye Jr. of Rochelle, Texas; sisters Nan Crouch and husband Billy of Brady, Texas, and Jan Wigginton of Brady, Texas; Godchildren Lauri Doyal-Lampman, Eric Youngblood, and Reed Williams and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Helen Mack (Smith) Langseth and Lynda Spiller (Smith) Cowan.
