On September 19, 2023, Sylvia Nell Brown passed from this earthly world to her eternal heavenly home with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Sylvia was born to Emma Floyd Morris and Mulloy Burton Morris on June 14th, 1938, in Rising Star, Texas. She was a member of the 1956 graduating class of Cross Plains High School. She married Loye Dalton Brown on June 1, 1957. After his lengthy career in the U. S. Army with numerous posts across the United States, L. D. and Sylvia retired to their hometown of Cross Plains where they lived for the remainder of their lives.
Sylvia was a founding member of the Evangelical Methodist Church of Cross Plains, which later became Cornerstone Bible Church. She served the church faithfully as both a Sunday School teacher and pianist. She was a prayer warrior and is credited by her family for praying her husband into a faithful relationship with Jesus Christ.
Throughout the late 1970s and 1980s, Sylvia was a faithful supporter of the Cross Plains Band Boosters, for which she made countless pots of chili to be sold as Frito pies at the Band Booster concessions during home football games. She was also a Boy Scout den mother and a Caravan leader.
Sylvia was a longtime crafter who enjoyed many different types of art projects but especially crochet (which she learned from her husband), embroidery, cross-stitch, and sewing clothes for her children and grandchildren. Her career was wholeheartedly serving her family as a housewife, mother, and grandmothers.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband, Loye Dalton Brown, who she affectionately referred to as “Dal;” her parents, Burt and Emma Morris; brothers, Sammie Lawson and Chester “Buster” Lawson; sister, Louvinda Chapman, and her husband J.D. Chapman; and son-in-law, Phillip Bennett.
She is survived by her four children: her son, Loye Dalton Brown, Jr., and daughter-in-law Cindy Brown of Greenbrier, TN; daughter, Tamra Nell Brown, of Cross Plains, TX; daughter, Sheri Dawn Bennett, of Abilene, TX; and son, Dr. Wes Brown, and daughter-in-law, Amy Brown, of Clifton, TX; her brother, W.A. Morris and his wife, Brenda; and another sister-in-law, Connie Lawson, as well as 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great granddaughters; numerous nieces and nephews, and other extended family.
Visitation is Saturday, September 23, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel.
Service will be Sunday, September 24, at 2:00 pm at Higginbotham Chapel.
