Robert Ozuna Selvera, age 60, of Brady, Texas passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2023 in San Angelo, Texas. Robert was born May 4, 1963 in Austin, Texas to Frank Selvera Sr. and Celestina (Ozuna) Selvera. He grew up in Austin and attended Texas State University, where he earned his degree psychology. He married Tina Barrera on December 14, 1996 in Austin. He and Tina moved to Brady in 2000. He has worked for the State of Texas for over 30 years, retiring in December of 2019 as a case investigator for the Texas Department of Family & Protective Services. Robert’s passion was martial arts. He was a Grand Master and loved to teach youngsters as well as adults martial arts. He also was a private music instructor for several years. He enjoyed fishing, music and Bar-B-Queing. Robert was very active in his community. He served on various boards over the years, most recently the Frontera Clinic Board, the Executive Board of the Amateur Board of Karate and the Haven Family Shelter Board of Directors. He was instrumental in bringing “Smoke of the Hill”, the annual community fundraiser, to Brady. He was active in the local Democratic Party and was an election judge for several years. He was also a very active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Brady where he was a Deacon for 10 years and a member the Knights of Columbus. He helped the Diocese of San Angelo with their Deacon program for several years. He taught the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults), Confirmation & Baptism Classes, CCD Class and served as Director of the Catholic Youth program. He also served his parish by conducting Funeral Masses at the church and reciting the Holy Rosary at local funeral homes during visitations. He was also an active member of the Brady Clergy Association.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Robert Selvera will be held at 11:00am Monday, August 28, 2023 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Brady. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery in Brady.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with the Holy Rosary being recited at 7:00pm. Friends may view Robert’s Memorial Video Tribute and/or sign his online memorial guest book at www.leatherwoodmemorialchapels.com.
Pallbearers will be Patrick Barrera, Adrian Barrera, Joshua Barrera, Joe Rendon, Frank Selvera, III and Elrid Diaz. Honorary Pallbearers will be Asher Lynch and Santiago Castillo.
Robert is survived by his father, Frank Selvera, Sr. of Austin, Texas; his loving wife Tina Selvera of Brady, Texas; son Juan Amarante Selvera of Austin, Texas; daughter Alicia Torres of San Angelo, Texas; brothers David Selvera of Austin, Texas and Frank Selvera, Jr. of Austin, Texas; sister Elizabeth Mejia and husband Rubin of Austin, Texas and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother.
