Follow Up to Wednesday’s “Hoover Fire”

The Brownwood Fire Department has provided additional information concerning the grass fire which happened on Wednesday afternoon, August 9.

The alarm came at 2:01 pm east of Hoover Street on the east side of the railroad tracks just north of the Brownwood Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Brownwood units arrived to find a fast-moving grass fire, between the railroad tracks and the Pecan Bayou. Equipment was staged on the east side of the Pecan Bayou in case the fire crossed over.

The Texas Forest Service also responded with 2 dozers, 2 helicopters, and 1 maintainer to assist in establishing a containment line and fire suppression. The forward progress of the fire was stopped at 6:14 pm. Crews remained on the scene as of 8/10/23 to mop up numerous hot spots. A total of 72 acres were burned.

Due to the fire size and complexity, Early FD, Zephyr FD, Winchell FD, Oncor, Brown Co. Emergency Mgt., TDEM, Brown County Pct. 3, Brown County Sheriff’s Office and CERT were called to the scene to assist.
