One Killed, Two Injured in Comanche County Crash

One person was killed, and two others were injured in a two-vehicle wreck which happened Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at 8:17 pm 6.2 miles north of Comanche on Farm to Market Road 2247.

According to the report from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash involved a 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup truck driven by Waggoner Wayne Shelton, 18, of Comanche.  He was transported to Hendrick Medical Center North with incapacitating injury in stable condition.  A 14-year-old passenger in the pickup, also from Comanche, was also transported to Hendrick Medical Center North with non-incapacitating injury, treated and released.

The deceased was the driver of a 2013 Ford Explorer sports utility vehicle – Samara Ann Christine Johnson, 21, of Comanche.  She was pronounced deceased at the scene at 9:15 pm by Justice of the Peace, Johnny Conine.

The two vehicles collided head-on on a curve in the center of the roadway, according to the report.

The wreck was investigated by Trooper Jacob Wheeler, Texas Highway Patrol in Brownwood, with assistance by the Comanche County Sheriff’s Office.
