Howard Payne University will hold the grand opening of the newly renovated Douglas MacArthur Academy of Freedom on Tuesday, August 15. At 2 p.m., doors will open for self-guided tours, with a ceremony to follow at 2:30 p.m.
Visitors to the Academy of Freedom building, located at 1320 Austin Avenue, are encouraged to access the building through the entrance closest to the parking lot on the Coggin Avenue side of the facility.
The Academy of Freedom was recently the focus of a major renovation project to update the historic facility for revitalized use by HPU students, personnel and visitors. Home of the Guy D. Newman Honors Academy, the university’s multidisciplinary honors program, the Academy of Freedom features modular classrooms, updated technology and much-needed reception and office space. Honoring the ideals that serve as the foundation for the Honors Academy, the central gallery houses HPU’s historic statue of General MacArthur and a special collection of artifacts related to his distinguished military career.
“The Academy of Freedom’s renovation honors its distinctive heritage while preparing it for a strong future,” said Dr. Cory Hines, HPU president. “We are thrilled with the facility and eager to share it with the public.”
Applications are being accepted for HPU’s fall 2023 semester that will begin Aug. 21. To apply, visit www.hputx.edu/apply.
