The Brownwood City Council met Thursday, July 20, at 4:00 pm and approved a sales contract to purchase a building at 200 Carnegie, next door to the Brownwood/Brown County Health Department.

“Council action today was to approve a sales contract to purchase 200 Carnegie which is known as the Keepsakes location.  The reason for the acquisition is it will be one block from the new event center as well as adjacent to other city-owned property which is the Brownwood/Brown County Health Department,” said City Manager Emily Crawford.

The purchase price of the building is $132,500.

“That does have a contingency that we will do an asbestos survey and determine if there is substantial asbestos in remediation.  If there is then we do have the opportunity to reconsider the purchase.  Should the City acquire the property then we will consider the opportunities that particular location provides us as to whether we would keep the structure or whether we would combine that particular location with the health department location and do something together on that lot that would be an amenity to and benefit the Event Center complex,” Crawford said.

In other business, the Council approved the Mayoral reappointment of Lisa Dick on the Central Texas Mental Health Mental Retardation dba Center for Life Resources Board of Trustees from September 1, 2023 to August 31, 2025.

The regular Council meeting adjourned at 4:19 pm.  The Council then went into a Budget Workshop to work on the Fiscal Year 2023-2024 City Budget.
