Norman Lee McCoy, aka “Doc”, of Dublin, Texas entered into God’s kingdom on July 11, 2023 at the age of 92. He was born on June 29, 1931 to Roy and Hazel McCoy in Brown County, Texas.
Norman is preceded in death by his parents and son, Vaughn. He is survived by his daughter, Trudy Odom (Ken); granddaughters Lindsay Hernandez (Gabe) and Meredith Hill (Jerrod); great grandchildren Colton and Cora Hill; brother Winfred McCoy (Joyce); sister Edna King (Bob); several nieces and nephews and longtime companion Bonnie Price.
After graduating high school, Norman joined the Army and served as PFC in Korea. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, Bronze Service Medals and United Nations Service Medal. Upon leaving the army, Norman began his pursuit of a college degree. He obtained his Bachelor and Master’s degrees in agriculture from East Texas State University and Ph.D. in Plant Pathology from Texas A&M University.
He worked as an ag teacher, county agent and agricultural consultant. As a Plant Pathologist, he developed a disease resistant St. Augustine grass.
A memorial service and visitation will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, July 15, 2023 at Heartland Funeral Home, Comanche, Texas with interment, with military honors, following at 3p.m. in the Eastlawn Memorial Cemetery, Early, Texas.
