Virginia Briggs, age 86, of Bangs, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 11, 2023, in Brownwood.

A graveside service for Virginia will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 17, at Cedar Point Cemetery

Virginia “Granny” Briggs was born on January 10, 1937, in San Saba to Fremon Anderson and Addie (Drew) Anderson. She graduated from Bangs High School where she made many lifelong friends. She married Thomas G. “Tommy” Briggs on August 16, 1980. Tommy brought with him two grown boys that she loved as her own. Together they were involved with the Shriners organization, participating in parades and camping trips.

In 1955 she began working for Pacific Bell Telephone Company (GTE). Once she retired from the telephone company, she became known as “Granny” to the many children she had the privilege of caring for in her home. She loved family gatherings and baking breads and sweet treats. She enjoyed taking her grandchildren camping, fishing and swimming. She was a sports fan and loved watching her children and grandchildren, as well as the Bangs Dragons compete in all sporting events. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Bangs, volunteering in many capacities. Her friendships with her Sunday school classmates were very important to her. She also served as a Pink Lady with Brownwood Regional Medical Center.

Virginia is survived by her children, Patti (Spivey) Miller and husband Terry of Dublin, Cindee (Spivey) Goodwin and husband Ray of Early, and Terry Glenn Briggs and wife Gina of Houston; 5 grandchildren, Slaten Miller and wife Coe, Callen Miller and wife Aubrey, Landen Miller and wife Jacy, Sadee (Goodwin) Kello and husband Scott, and Tyler Goodwin and wife Amanda; as well as 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary Beth Anderson, and many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Fremon and Addie Anderson; husband Tommy Briggs; brother, Wallis Anderson; and son, Gary Briggs.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Shriners Hospital for Children (donate.lovetotherescue.org).
