Six Vehicle Wreck in Comanche County Kills 2 and Injures 2

A six vehicle crash killed two and injured two on Saturday in Comanche County. One of the deceased is from Coleman and one is from Comanche.

According to the accident report issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety, the wreck happened at 5:17 pm on Saturday, June 10, 2023 on U.S. Highway 67, three miles east of Comanche where the posted speed limit is 75 mph.

Vehicle 1: (Fled the scene) – A Ford pickup, new year model. It will have damage to the left side. Investigators are still trying to locate vehicle one and its driver.

Vehicle 2: A 2022 Toyota Prius passenger car, driven by Mari Kanani Lai Jun Chun, 35, of Pearl City, Hawaii. She was uninjured and wearing a seatbelt.

Vehicle 3: A 2012 Nissan Titan sports utility vehicle, driven by Jimmy Walter Crosson, 78, of Comanche who died in the accident and was pronounced dead on scene at 6:10 pm by Justice of the Peace Johnny Conine. No seat belt was  worn.

Vehicle 4: A 2015 Harley Davidson Street Glide motorcycle, driven by Joel Max Easter, 62, of Early who received non-incapacitating injury. No helmet was worn.

Vehicle 5: A 2007 Harley Davidson Heritage soft tail motorcycle, driven by Khayman Broadi Dela Rosa, 32, of Brownwood. He was transported to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Stephenville in critical condition with incapacitating injuries.  No helmet was worn.

Vehicle 6: A 2008 Yamaha, XV1700A motorcycle, driven by Steven Lewis Stuart, 56, of Coleman. The report indicates he was pronounced dead on scene at 6:15 pm by Justice of the Peace Johnny Conine.  No helmet was worn.

Preliminary investigation revealed that vehicles 1 and 3 were traveling East on U.S. Highway 67. Vehicle 1 was following vehicle 3. The driver of vehicle 1 drove across the center dividing stripe into the Westbound lane of U.S. Highway 67, passing vehicle 3.
Vehicle 2 was traveling West on U.S. 67 approaching vehicles 1 and 3 at this time. The driver of vehicle 2 observed vehicle 1 approaching in his lane, without sufficient distance to pass vehicle 3 and took evasive action by driving toward the right shoulder. Vehicle 1’s left front side struck vehicle 2’s left side.

Vehicles 4, 5 and 6 were traveling West on U.S. 67 approaching this action following vehicle 2 and took evasive actions. Vehicle 4 veered right to avoid vehicle 1 that was fleeing the scene and struck the left side mirror. The driver of vehicle 5 veered left into the path of vehicle 3. Vehicle 3 took evasive action to avoid vehicle 5 steering left into the Westbound lane. The actions of vehicles 3 and 5 caused them to collide on their right sides. Vehicle 6 was unable to avoid the collisions and struck vehicle 3 head on. The driver of vehicle 1 was not located. Vehicle 1 will have damage to the left side. Investigators are still trying to locate vehicle 1 and its driver.

The weather conditions were clear, road conditions dry, according to the DPS.

The wreck was investigated by Trooper Zachariah R. Lundy of Coleman with assistance from Trooper John Moody from Brownwood, Sergeant Michael Thomas from Brownwood and Comanche County Sheriff’s Office.
