Six Brownwood High School (BHS) American Sign Language (ASL) students were recently inducted into the ASL Honor Society. “Four were inducted on Tuesday [May 16], and two more received their recognition, pins, and certificates in class Wednesday,” stated BHS World Languages teacher and ASL Honor Society Sponsor Renee Fraze.

“Two seniors have received cords for graduation after studying ASL for two or more years, serving the Deaf Community and exploring the use of ASL beyond the classroom walls in the larger community,” noted Fraze. “Caitlyn Schwing was additionally awarded the Alice Cogswell Medal of Honor after completing three years of ASL at BHS and serving as a student aide in the ASL classroom, supporting students and tutoring those new to the language. She will continue her studies at Lamar University in the Fall as an ASL Interpreting major.”
