Brownwood Independent School District (BISD) announced on Thursday the arrival of five new school buses, made possible by a grant from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. The grant provided over half a million dollars and paved the way for BISD to purchase five 2023-model buses, including two with wheelchair lifts.

BISD Assistant Superintendent, Mitch Moore, expressed excitement about the new buses, stating, “We are thrilled to have been awarded this grant money, which has allowed us to replace several old buses with these new, state-of-the-art models. The safety and comfort of our students are of the utmost importance to us, and these new buses will help us to ensure that they have a safe and enjoyable ride to and from school.”

Moore also thanked Transportation Director Maria Arellano for her hard work toward obtaining the bus grant. “We will continue to look for opportunities to take advantage of grant programs that benefit the district’s operations,” he added.

The new buses have already been put into service and are replacing models dating back to 1998. BISD is grateful for the opportunity to provide its students with the best possible transportation and is committed to ensuring their safety and comfort on the road.
