Our husband, father, brother, papa, uncle, and friend flew into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, May 2nd at noon.  He was surrounded by family and friends as he took his last breath.  He will be missed by many, but we have the assurance we will see him again.

George DeVern Wheeler was born on August 2, 1957, in Brownwood, to Doris (Eoff) and DeVern Wheeler.  George attended school in Early and graduated from Early High School in 1975.  He worked with his parents at D&D Trim Shop for 29 years and worked as a tool distributor for Matco Tools for 22 years.  He had recently started working for his son Andrew Wheeler.  George married Vicki Sarrett on November 16, 1991, in Early.

George was a lifelong Methodist and was currently a member of Early Methodist Church.  He had been a member of the Pecan Valley Emmaus Community since 1996.  George was known for being able to build anything with his hands, and cooking some of the best BBQ in Brown County.  George joined the Early Volunteer Fire Department in 1982 and served his community for over 40 years.

George is survived by his wife of nearly 32 years, Vicki Wheeler, of Early; his children: Jennifer Stephens and husband Blake of Roby, Andrew Wheeler and wife Megan of Gustine, Laura Hancock and husband Shawn of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, John Smith and wife Elena of New Braunfels, Kristi Huxford and husband Brent of Bangs, and Chad Smith and wife Amber of Early; grandchildren, Brook and Hunter Stephens, Colton and Jacob Wheeler, Addy and Aiden Hancock, Levi and Carter Smith, Shooter Huxford, Peyton, Emma, and Autumn Carey and Rylee Smith; his siblings, Sandra Wylie of May, Emma Williams and husband Dennis of Early, and Exa Villa and husband Chris of Houston and an adopted son, Willie Hernandez.
