William Nance Campbell, age 78 of Coleman, was born November 6, 1944, to W.F. and Ruby Nance Campbell in Ballinger, TX. He grew up in Coleman, graduating in 1963 from Coleman High School. Nance later attended Tarleton State University in Stephenville, where he was a member of the Tarleton Rodeo Team. On August 16, 1969, Nance married Patricia Hamilton Campbell in Coleman at First United Methodist Church.
Nance was honored to serve Coleman County as its Justice of the Peace for 27 years, retiring in 2018. Prior to that, he was a partner at Shipman’s Clothing department store before taking ownership and renaming the business to Campbell’s Clothing. Nance also served as a member of the Coleman Rodeo Association.
Working among and serving the Coleman community for so long, Nance had the true privilege of calling many people friends. His family is forever grateful.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Campbell of Coleman; two children, Chance Campbell of Liberty Hill, and Clay Campbell and wife Jennifer of Corpus Christi; four grandchildren, Courtland Campbell of College Station, Lillian Campbell of College Station, Maebry Campbell of Corpus Christi, and Caden Campbell of Liberty Hill. Brother-in-law Kyle Moseley of Rochelle, sister-in-law Sandra Lester and husband Wilfred of Belton, brother-in-law Mike Hamilton and wife Kim of Huntsville, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and sister, Ann Campbell Moseley.
The family will host a time of visitation and fellowship from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel.
Family and friends are invited to a funeral service celebrating his life at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard Hetzel officiating. Interment will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.
