C. Ruenell Ewing, 88, of Glen Cove

C. Ruenell Ewing, age 88, of Glen Cove, died Monday, February 20, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

The family will host a time of visitation at 1:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 26, 2023, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman with Erik Masti, chaplain with Hospice of the Big Country officiating. A graveside committal service will follow in the Glen Cove Cemetery with Zach Smith officiating. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman.

She was born Chloris Ruenell Watkins on May 7, 1934, in Ovalo, Texas to Frank Marvin Watkins and Velmon Dee Roch Watkins. Ruenell grew up in Silver Valley and graduated from Novice High School in 1951 and attended Texas Women’s University. She married Roy Max Ewing in 1955 and they had one daughter, Sherri Lynn Ewing in 1957.

Ruenell was an old soul but loved the thrill of taking an adventure. She worked in food service for the National Park Services, including such places as Yellowstone and Big Bend National Parks. She loved the outdoors and being close to the mountains. Ruenell even worked for several outfitters in Wyoming and Montana,cooking for guests on back country trail rides. Her love of nature and the outdoors made her happy. Ruenell was always planning her next adventure.

Ruenell loved to travel, taking her last trip to Alaska in 2018 with her family. She also enjoyed raising horses, sheep and especially turkeys. Ruenell loved to read Louis L’Amour books, watch anything with John Wayne, and she loved her cats. Most of all she loved her family. She cherished the time she got to spend with her daughter Sherri and her grandchildren. She will be missed.

Preceding Ruenell in death are her parents, Frank and Velmon Watkins.

She is survived by her daughter, Sherri Coble and husband Ron of Plano; three grandchildren, Jon Coble of Bedford, Jennifer Tauss and husband Ryan of Rockwall, and Amy Gonzales and husband Mark of Highland Ranch, Colorado; five great grandchildren, Oliver Tauss, Elliot Tauss, Hannah Gonzales, Addison Tauss, and Zoe Gonzales; and one brother, Phil Watkins and wife Connie of Lawn.

The family would like to give special thanks to the Volunteer Fire Department of Glen Cove, Shannon Medical Center, Hospice of the Big Country, and to her special friend and caregiver, Bobbie Smith, for their love and support of Ruenell.

Pallbearers will be Mark Gonzales, Ryan Tauss, Jon Coble, Bo Powers, Zach Smith, and Ron Coble.

Honorary Pallbearers include Travis Watkins and Phil Watkins.

The family suggests memorials in memory of Ruenell to Hospice of the Big Country, 4601 Hartford, Abilene, Texas 79605.
