CMSgt Joe William Smith (Ret), age 86, of Brady, Texas and formerly of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed away Friday, February 17, 2023 at his residence in Brady.  He was born November 30, 1936, in Boones Hill, North Carolina to Lillian Mabe Smith.  Joe grew up in North Carolina and married Patricia Ann Tickle on December 15, 1954 in Mount Airy, North Carolina.  He served in the U.S. Air Force for 30 years, retiring in 1985 at the rank of Chief Master Sergeant.  He worked as an athletic trainer at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs for many years.  He and Pat lived in Colorado Springs for 54 years and moved to Brady in 2021.  He loved sports and enjoyed reading.  He was known as a “Real Good Guy,” always ready to help a veteran out with obtaining veterans benefits. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Colorado Springs.

Joe Smith is survived by Pat Smith, his loving wife of over 68 years; son Michael William Smith of Brady, Texas; daughters Pamela Beemer of Brady, Texas and Tammy Walker and husband Toby of Brady, Texas; grandchildren Rebecca Sanchez, Trish Russ, Joshua Walker, Rachel Walker, Timothy Walker and Andrew Walker, fourteen great-grandchildren and his little buddy Clyde.  He was preceded in death by his parents, son Stephen Franklin Smith and grandson Michael Beemer.
