Lady Lions and Lions Win Soccer Matches

LITTLE RIVER ACADEMY – Brownwood scored goals galore in both the girls and boys soccer games Friday night, taking decisive wins against Little River Academy.

GIRLS GAME

The Brownwood Lady Lions wrapped up the first half of District 5-4A soccer action Friday with a 9-1 rout of Little River-Academy, leaving them in third place at the halfway point of the league slate.  Kennedi Johnson and Molly Oliver led the attack for the Lady Lions (10-3-1, 4-2) with two goals apiece, while Addison Pesina, Mariah Young, Ataleigh Constancio, Jacklyn Lewis, and Braycee Lee each contributed one goal.

The Lady Lions open the second half of district competition at 6 p.m. Tuesday when they host Lampasas, which they defeated 5-0 in the league opener on Jan. 27.

BOYS GAME

Noah Barron scored a career-high five goals, including three on headers, to spark the Brownwood Lions to an 8-1 road victory over Little River-Academy Friday night in the final game of the first half District 5-4A action.

Barron reeled off three goals in five minutes – including two of the headers – as the Lions opened a 3-0 lead midway though the first half.

Caleb Nelson tacked on his lone goal before intermission, and the Lions (8-9-1, 4-2) were in front 4-0 at halftime.

Brownwood yielded a goal 10 minutes into the second half, but Barron immediately responded for a 6-1 cushion, then added his final goal five minutes later.

Midway through the half, Jakson Yoder and Junior Martinez chipped in goals just over a minute apart and Brownwood cruised to the finish line.

The Lions will seek a third straight District 5-4A victory as they open the second half of the league slate at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lampasas. Brownwood won the first meeting, 3-0, on the road.
