Joseph Elbert “Bosko” Boswell was born in Voca, Texas on Saturday, December 14, 1929, to Ethel Louise Holloway and William Elbert Boswell. He died on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, in Burleson, Texas at the age of 93.
Visitation will be Friday, February 17, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Heritage Funeral Home in Brady.
A Graveside Service will be held Friday, February 17, at 1:30 pm at Rest Haven Cemetery in Brady.
After graduating from Brady High School, Elbert married Shirley Anthonette Moore on September 4, 1948. The couple resided in Brady for the entirety of their marriage and raised three children together.
Elbert worked at Commercial National Bank for 45 years and held numerous volunteer positions in the community including Treasurer of the Brady Band Boosters for over 50 years, a chairman for the Housing Authority of Brady, a member of the Ol’ Houn’ Dawgs Booster Club, and a longtime member of the Sunset Ridge Church of Christ where he was a deacon. He received the Brady Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award in 1970 and again in 2014, becoming the first person to earn the distinction twice.
He was preceded in death by his parents William and Ethel Boswell; wife of 51 years Shirley Boswell; son Marc Elbert Boswell; infant son Joseph Elbert Boswell Jr.; son-in-law Johnny Weeks; sister-in-law Iris Hayes; two great grandsons Toby Mask and Tyler Schneider; five sisters Mary Boyles, Lois Freeman, Minnie Phillip, Louise Tulk and Lillie Turner; and brother Manuel Boswell.
He is survived by daughter Jolene Mask and husband James of San Antonio, daughter Ginger Weeks of Burleson, and daughter-in-law Carol Boswell of Andrews; seven grandchildren Jason Mask, Jalyn Kelley and husband Brent, Jeff Weeks and wife Tonya, Joni Schneider and husband Chris, Michael Boswell and wife Casey, Jeremy Boswell, and Stephanie Boswell; seven great grandchildren Kaylee Heath, Jace Weeks, Tavin Weeks, Matthew Boswell, Caleb Boswell, Kobe Boswell and Kayia Howard; sisters-in-law Edith Slaughter, Nelda Rogers and husband Narvel, Nancy Simpson; brothers-in-law Charles Moore and wife Linda and Dickye Moore and wife Cynthia; numerous nieces and nephews; and his feline companion Blackie.
