It was during his high school years under Vocational Industrial Teacher, James Biggs, that Richard found his vocational passion. He became a craftsman in woodworking and cabinetry. His career spanned 47 years throughout Texas. Richard was a master in his trade and taught many young apprentices during those years.
Richard was passionate about football. He was a lifelong fan of the San Saba Armadillos and the Dallas Cowboys. This later expanded to Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Kansas City Chiefs.
