From KOXE Meteorologist Randy Turner – A trip to the grocery store for food in case of icy roads? I plan to, and recommend it, as icy travel is expected Monday afternoon through Wednesday morning. You might also want to put fuel in your vehicle to avoid pumping gas with wind chills in the low 20’s.
The Arctic front moved through the area on Sunday morning. As of 10:45 am, the temperature at Brownwood Regional Airport was 39 and the wind chill 32. Those numbers will continue a slow decline through the day.
Temperatures fall below freezing Sunday evening and should remain below freezing until during the day on Wednesday.
Precipitation falls as rain during the day Sunday, mainly light, but any precipitation (rain, fog, drizzle) from Sunday night through Wednesday morning will fall while temperatures are below freezing and will result in freezing rain ranging from light trace amounts Monday to up to a tenth of an inch by Tuesday. All would result in icy road conditions. The heaviest freezing rain episode, possibly sleet too, will happen from Monday night through Tuesday night.
Temperatures should get back above freezing by noon Wednesday so from then on through Thursday I’d expect rain as temps remain above freezing.
