A vehicle pursuit Saturday evening by Early Police resulted in an arrest.

According to information obtained from the Early Police Department, it was about 7:00 pm Saturday when police officers attempted to stop a black four-door vehicle on CC Woodson, due to a traffic violation.

The vehicle sped up and fled from officers as it went onto Commerce from the Tractor Supply area. Due to heavy traffic, Officers were unable to pursue the vehicle but 20 minutes later Officers spotted the vehicle again and attempted to stop it. Once again, the driver attempted to flee, traveling north on CR 381 (Old May Road) at a high rate of speed. As the pursuit approached the dead end of CR 381 the dust from the dirt road dramatically reduced visibility and the Officer wasn’t able to stop at the end of the roadway and crashed through the pipe barrier. The suspect driver then got out and ran on foot from the vehicle, leaving a female passenger behind. A short time later the suspect walked out onto CR 382 in front of Sheriff’s Deputies and was taken into custody. The driver, Seth Sheffler, was arrested and charged with four warrants for burglary of vehicle and one charge of theft, all from Hays County. In addition, Sheffler faces charges of Evading arrest, defective equipment and no driver’s license. Sheffler was booked into the Brown County Jail. The female was released. There were no injuries reported during the crash.
