Billy “Fred” Daniel, 88, of Mullin

Billy “Fred” Daniel of Mullin, TX passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, with his loving wife Viola at his side.Fred was born in Goldthwaite, TX to Bill & Addie Jane Daniel in October of 1934. He attended elementary school at Pompey Mountain School in Mills County and graduated from Mullin High School.  He attended Tarleton State College then Texas Tech College where he received his Bachelor of Science degree, and East Texas State where he earned his Master’s degree. Fred married the love of his life Viola Cox in July of 1954. Together they raised three children, Mike, Tommy, and Cathy.  Fred began his teaching career at Buena Vista School in Imperial, TX, where he taught for 36 years and raised his family.  He truly loved teaching and is remembered fondly by many of his students as “Mr. D”.

Along with teaching, Fred was a rancher and farmer. He loved to travel and did so extensively with his son Mike.  He loved animals of all kinds and raised cattle, sheep, buffalo, miniature horses, canaries, ostrich, llamas and even parrots.  He was a kind and generous person that never met a stranger.  He helped many families over the years by providing food, money, or a helping hand.

Fred is survived by his wife Viola Daniel, daughter Cathy Daniel Carrell and husband Alvie, daughter in law Bertha Benavides Daniel, his sister Glenda Horton, grandsons Shawn Daniel, Kenneth Carrell and wife Morgan, Davy Daniel and wife Linsey, and John Michael Daniel, 15 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents Bill & Addie Jane Daniel, his sister Shirley Cox, his son Mike Daniel, his son Tommy Daniel, and grandson Joshua Carrell.

Family visitation will be held at Stacy-Wilkins Funeral Home in Goldthwaite, TX on Sunday, January 15, 2023 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm.

A celebration of his life service will be held Monday, January 16, 2023, at 11:00 am at Pompey Mountain Church & Duren Cemetery at 22 County Road 128, Mullin, TX.
